Flip Books in Illustration
One final example of the Phi phenomenon in flip (flick/thumb) books. The first image shows the static sequential images (left); the second image shows the same sequential images in flipped motion illusion (right); the third image shows the flipped motion at faster speed, hence combining the Phi phenomenon with persistence of vision to create a smoother or more continuous illusion of motion (left).
