THE SEARCHERS: Two songs

The Searchers: Two Songs
THAT'LL BE THE DAY

John Ford's The Searchers not only has a key place in film history, it also inspired one of the great Rock 'n' Roll songs. Buddy Holly liked John Wayne's line, "That'll be the day," repeated several times in the film. With his band, The Crickets, he made a hit record out of the line.

Well that'll be the day When you say good-bye Yes that'll be the day When you make me cry You say you're gonna leave You know it's a lie 'cause that'll be the day When I die Well you give me all your lovin' And your turtle dovin' A all your hugs and kisses and your money too Well uh you know you love me baby Still you tell me maybe That someday well I'll be blue Well that'll be the day When you say good-bye Yes that'll be the day When you make me cry You say you're gonna leave You know it's a lie 'cause that'll be the day When I die Well oh when cupid shot his dart He shot it at your heart So if we ever part then I'll leave you You sit and hold me and you Tell me boldly That someday well I'll be blue Well that'll be the day When you say good-bye Yes that'll be the day When you make me cry You say you're gonna leave You know it's a lie 'cause that'll be the day When I die.

FORGET ME NEVER (LORENA)

As in the case of Love Me Tender, adapted from the Civil War song, Aura Lea, this movie song was adapted for Elvis from the Civil War song, Lorena, featured as underscore music throughout John Ford's The Searchers. To hear the song, go here.

If I should go, forget me never Please say that you'll remember me I pray the dreams we share together Will shine on in your memory Each time a star falls out of heaven It leaves the sky a deeper blue So if we part, forget me never And don't forget my love for you And don't forget my love for you.
