Students,
FOR NEXT WEEK, compile a list of vocabulary words for your advertisement. These words should not be ordinary words that you likely knew already; rather words that are special to your research into the field of your advertisment.
For example, if my advertisement or sales pitch is for a CD player, I would search other advertisements and find words and phrases such as volume control, bass, acoustics, amplification, resonance, echo, reception (for the radio), input, timer, mute, program, sleep function, etc.
Not all of these words are long or difficult; they are just special to the field. They need to be mastered and used correctly in order to write correctly.
You should get into the habit of finding what you need. The good writer doesn't necessarily know, but knows how to know.
Of course some of these words you will already know; but clearly you will (and should) discover new words, terms, and phrases (collocations) you never knew before.
Be prepared to present your list to the class and how you used, or might have used, each word in your advertisement, or sales pitch. Aim for 15-20 words. Good luck!
