ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN
The assigned film for Friday, 7 March 2008, is All the President's Men (Alan Pakula, 1976). The film was photographed by Gordon Willis, one of the most respected names in film cinematography. To prepare for the film, you may wish to check up on the topic of "Watergate" in Wikipedia. "Watergate" was probably the biggest political scandal in US history and led to the only resignation of a US president.
The film narrates, step by step, the investigation, by two Washington Post reporters, of the scandal, showing that a minor burglary of an office in the Watergate building in Washington was actually linked to high-level officials, including the US president.
But our focus is mainly on the symbolic use of light and resolution (for example, the grainy TV images, which represent falsehood).
